As a child, I remember attending The Nutcracker with my mom and sisters every Christmas. It was fancy and special and magical, so I was so excited to be able to share that with my oldest daughter this year. My mom invited all her granddaughters (that lived close) and their mothers. We went to lunch and then to the ballet. The production was just perfect, it was a small company that used a lot of students. Although not as professional as a big city company, there were some advantages. The theater was smaller (every seat was great!) and the ballet had been shortened (just right for little girls). The theater was full of families; moms, daughters, grandmothers (and yes, fathers and sons). It was so fun to see my young nieces, who were seeing it for the first time, react. As soon as it was over my 5-year old niece exclaimed, “Can we see it again?”
We’ve been enjoying the music all month and especially like the recording by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & David Maninov.
